The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, variable-sweep winged aircraft. It was the United States Navy's primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet defence interceptor and tactical reconnaissance platform from 1974 to 2006. In 1986, the F-14 was the main aircraft featured in the Tom Cruise film Top Gun, spawning a surge in U.S. Navy recruiting. The F-14 Tomcat was designed as both an air superiority fighter and a long-range naval interceptor, it has a two seat cockpit with a canopy that gives all-round visibility.
The Tomcat's defining feature is its variable geometry wings that swing automatically during flight; for high-speed intercept, they are swept back, and they then swing forward again for lower speed flight. It has a maximum speed of Mach 2.34 (1,544 mph) at high altitude, and has a service ceiling of 50,000 ft.
This incredible jet aircraft is equipped with an internal 20 mm M61 Vulcan Gatling-type gun mounted on the left side, and can carry AIM-54 Phoenix, AIM-7 Sparrow, and AIM-9 Sidewinder anti-aircraft missiles.
Now for the details on the F-14 Jolly Rogers which you can fly! Like all the planes in the Starmax range, the F-14 is finished in the factory to a high standard and represents an excellent replica of the real aircraft. But this one is special, not only does it look like the real McCoy but it shares most of the functionality of the real thing too. The variable geometry or swing-wings on this model jet actually work, as does the landing gear, thanks to its 6 channel electronics. You can control each position of the wings from fully open to fully retracted. How good does this jet look with the wings fully retracted?!
The F-14 Jolly Rogers is an extremely high spec model; it features twin 70mm EDF jets, and twin ESCs, making it very quick.
The Starmax F-14 is a massive model, it has an 1100mm wingspan, so not only does it look fantastic, and will dominate the sky above you, this large size makes it much more stable in flight. If you want the ultimate ducted fan jet, then this is the one for you. It is stunning, manouvreable and exceedingly fast. You will be Top Gun!
What does PNP mean? PNP stands for plug and play, and describes a model that is somewhere between Almost Ready to Fly (ARF) and Ready to Fly (RTF). A PNP model has the motor, ESC, servos and some radio gear installed but is missing the receiver, transmitter, batteries and charger.
This model is an amazing 3D aerobatic aircraft, and capable of incredible speed. The twin engined punch that this plane packs allows it to perform a full aerobatic display: inside loops, outside loops, axial rolls, inverted flight, knife edge, stall turns, hammerheads, and spins are all possible. If you're really good you will be able to perform the famous 'Cobra Manoeuvre' with this Tomcat.*
This jet is equipped with a powerful brushless motor, for the best performance. The plane is made from strong but lightweight foam that is more resistant to crashes and gives easier stable flight even in windy conditions. This aeroplane can take off from the ground or can be hand launched.
This plane is 90% assembled and so only a few minutes of final build finishes are needed, and a few components before you can fly.
