The P-51 Mustang was a single seater fighter plane, which was designed and built for World War II in just 117 days! The Royal Air Force used it as a fighter bomber, a reconnaissance plane, and as a bomber escort on raids over Germany in 1944. It was powered by a supercharged Rolls Royce Merlin engine and was fitted with six .50 caliber (12.7 mm) M2 Browning machine guns.
Rearward visibility was a problem with WW2 fighter planes and this was solved by using a 'bubble' or 'teardrop' canopy. This new type of canopy was a development in the P-51D version, considered the definitive Mustang, and is the model we have for you here.
This model is a faithful and large scale replica of the full size P-51D Mustang (pictured above), the attention to detail in the canopy and the WWII USAF decals is excellent and will not disappoint.
And when we say large scale we mean LARGE SCALE! This model plane has wingspan of 1600mm - giving all the advantages that the massive size can offer, including brilliant graphics, CAD designed detail, and when flying - additional stability making flying easier, even in windy conditions.
It is almost completely built straight out of the box, only a few minutes of minor final assembly steps will be required, plus the extra components which aren't included such as the receiver, transmitter, battery and charger to get this legend of the 20th century airbourne. This model is well made, although lightweight, and it is built to be crash resistant, and to give a long life of fun flying. The P-51D is exceedingly stable, and will fly at low speeds, which makes it safe and fun, even for the beginner. It is also possible to fly these planes at low altitude, great for when you're learning so those crashes aren't too severe!
Like all our Starmax PNP models, the P51 Mustang is built to a very high standard and designed to reflect the looks of the real model faithfully. This model even has retractable undercarriage, and flashing LED lights to add to the realism. It is equipped with a very powerful brushless motor, an ESC and most of the necessary electronics installed. All you need to get this bird airborne is a transmitter, receiver, a Li-po battery and charger, all of which are available as options above.
